US Army paratroopers assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade alongside Italian soldiers from the 3rd Alpini Regiment carry out a unified firing attack during Exercise Steel Blizzard at Pian dell'Alpe in Usseaux, Italy on February 15, 2022. Exercise Steel Blizzard is multinational arctic and mountain warfare exercises organized by the Italian Army. Three reconnaissance platoons of the 173rd Airborne Brigade take part in a three-phase training regimen with the 3rd Alpini Regiment to expand the force's capabilities by learning how to fire, move and operate in mountainous and polar conditions. During training, these paratroopers learn various methods of skiing and crossing mountains, engaging in skirmishes while skiing and operating along the Alpini, culminating in a validation exercise against opposing forces in a mountainous environment. This training plays a key role in further developing the relationship, interoperability and mission capabilities of the two forces. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the US Army's Emergency Response Force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable troops to United States Central Command, Africa, and Europe areas of responsibility. Advancing to be deployed in Italy and Germany, the brigades regularly train with NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen alliances. (US Army Video by Spc.
