French, US and Dutch Marines land in Norway for Exercise Cold Response 22

  Video Source:  U.S. MILITARY CENTRAL Marines from the Netherlands, France and the United States have landed in Norway to participate in Cold Response 22, a long-planned Norwegian-led exercise that pits NATO Allies against the unique hardships of the High North. More than 30,000 troops from 27 NATO Allies and partners have gathered in northern Norway for the drills, which started in early March and will continue until 1 April. The exercise simulates a collective defence scenario, with Marines staging amphibious landings to quickly reinforce Allies under attack. It also lets troops conduct military operations in uniquely challenging weather and terrain, giving them a chance to refine their tactics.

  Video Source:  U.S. MILITARY CENTRAL The system can fire rockets or MGM-140 ATACMS missiles, which are contained in interchangeable pods. Each pod contains six standard rockets or one guided ATACMS missile; the two types cannot be mixed. The LLM can hold two pods at a time, which are hand-loaded using an integrated winch system. All twelve rockets or two ATACMS missiles can be fired in under a minute. One launcher firing twelve rockets can completely blanket one square kilometer with submunitions.

The Lightnings from RAF Marham in Norfolk were supported by a small team of RAF and Royal Navy personnel comprising Force Protection, engineering, survival equipment, communications, and logistics. The air base has been regularly used by RAF Typhoons to carry out the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission. RAF Marham is the home of the F-35B Lightning, a 5th Generation, multi-role, stealth fighter. British Army's newest Skysaber air defense system delivered to Poland

  Video Source:  U.S. MILITARY CENTRAL The British Army has taken delivery of its brand new state-of-the-art intermediate air defence system, Sky Sabre. It marks a wholesale upgrade to the venerable Rapier system that has now been in service for nearly five decades. Sky Sabre, comprising of three separate components: 1) The Agile Multi-Beam surveillance radar (affectionally referred to as the Giraffe0, 2) The Battle Management Command & Control Communications centre. 3) The Land Ceptor missile delivery vehicle. The system has the ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously and can take out aircraft, drones and even laser guided bombs at a range of 120Km using the CAMM (Common Anti-Air Modular Missile) travelling at over 2300 miles per hour.

HMS Queen Elizabeth visits the Clyde

  Video Source:  U.S. MILITARY CENTRAL The Firth of Clyde was witness to the striking sight of the Nation’s flagship earlier today (March 14) as Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth visited for the second time since her launch in July 2014. The giant, 65,000 tonne carrier was last seen on the Clyde in March last year when she sailed to Loch Long to be loaded with ammunition ahead of her successful deployment with the Carrier Strike Group. She returned to the serene waters of the loch today, berthing once again at Glen Mallan ammunitioning jetty which completed a £67M upgrade to accommodate the Royal Navy’s Queen Elizabeth Carriers last year.

Spanish Troops arrive in Norway for Exercise Brilliant Jump 2022

  Video Source:  U.S. MILITARY CENTRAL Several units from the Spanish Army arrived in Norway this week, by air and sea, to participate in exercises Brilliant Jump 2022. The Spanish troops from 12th Brigade Guadarrama, 14 Main Battle Tank Leopardo and the 6 Infantry Fighting Vehicles Pizarro are not only participating in NATO exercise Brilliant Jump, but they will also join long-planned Norwegian-led exercise Cold Response for further training in harsh winter conditions. NATO is consistently evolving and training to improve readiness, cohesion and interoperability. The exercises will test and validate the High Readiness Brigade in Norway 2022 for employment as an element of the NATO Response Force 2022.

  Video Source:  U.S. MILITARY CENTRAL The FIM-92 Stinger is a passive surface-to-air missile that can be shoulder-fired by a single operator (although standard military procedure calls for two operators, team chief and gunner). The Stinger was intended to supplant the FIM-43 Redeye MANPAD system, the principal difference being that, unlike the Redeye, the Stinger can acquire the target when the target approaches the operator, giving much more time to acquire and destroy the target. The FIM-92B missile can also be fired from the M-1097 Avenger and the M6 Linebacker. The missile is also capable of being deployed from a Humvee Stinger rack, and can be used by airborne troops. A helicopter launched version exists called Air-to-Air Stinger (ATAS).

British Royal Marines fire a Javelin anti-tank missile in Norway

  Video Source:  U.S. MILITARY CENTRAL UK Royal Marines have been conducting winter warfare training in Norway in temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius. The Marines, who form the UK’s Commando Forces, have been firing various weapons systems, as well as conducting long patrols and amphibious landings. The Marines are preparing to take part in the bi-annual Norwegian-led exercise Cold Response 2022, which is a defensive exercise under a NATO Article 5 scenario. 

British and Lithuanian troops using state-of-the-art Javelin and NLAW anti-tank weapon systems

  Video Source:  U.S. MILITARY CENTRAL About 40 soldiers from the British Army took part in Exercise Hunter 22 in Lithuania, using state-of-the-art Javelin and NLAW anti-tank weapons systems alongside their Lithuanian allies. This was a pre-planned bilateral exercise focusing on shared anti-tank capabilities. The soldiers from Black Horse Troop, the UK contribution to the US-led NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup in Poland, is formed from B Squadron The Royal Dragoon Guards. Black Horse Troop are equipped with Jackal and Coyote vehicles as well as NLAW and Javelin anti-tank weapons. These two anti-tank systems have been employed by the British Army for a number of years and are a significant force multiplier for lightly armoured troops. Footage includes shots of UK troops operating the Javelin and NLAW weapons systems alongside the Lithuanian Army and an interview with Commander of Black Horse Troop Major Will Roome, Royal Dragoon Guards, British Army.

French Rafale fighter jets patrol the skies over Poland

Since 24 February, Rafale fighter jets from Mont-de-Marsan Air Base in southern France have been flying Combat Air Patrol (CAP) missions over Poland, augmenting the Polish Air Force’s standing Air Policing efforts, as well as those of US Air Force fighters forward-deployed to Poland in the wake of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. NATO has since enhanced its defensive posture in the eastern part of the Alliance, with more land, air and maritime forces deployed across the NATO area from various Allies. The Rafale have been aided in their mission by the French Air Force’s fleet of aerial refuelers, which help the fighters cover Polish airspace for longer periods of time. French sends troops and military vehicles deployed to Romania

Elements of the NRF have been activated for the first time in its history, in a deterrence and defence role, in response to Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine, demonstrating NATO’s commitment to the protection of its Allies.
